Balancing Business and Family: A Summer in the Life of a Mortgage Broker Mom

Summer isn’t just a season—it’s a juggling act. As a Canadian mortgage broker, wife to a shift-working husband, and mom to three kids (ages 19, 16, and 11), life can get beautifully chaotic. But amidst the busy schedules, spontaneous plans, and growing business, I’m finding space—for connection, growth, and self-care.

One thing I love about brokering? Flexibility. I’m able to serve my clients with 5-star attention and still be present for the people who matter most. Whether it’s a quick show with my youngest, a real conversation with my teens, or just sitting beside my husband after a long shift, I’ve learned that balance doesn’t mean perfection. It means making space for what counts.

This summer, I recommitted to my health—taking an hour five days a week just for me. That time helps me stay focused, energized, and more present in everything else I do.

Here are a few tips that help me stay grounded:

  • Block time for yourself—even 30 minutes makes a difference

  • Be present when it matters—short moments still build strong connections

  • Use flexibility wisely—your schedule should reflect your priorities

  • Check in with your people—and yourself

Have you thought about what balance looks like for you this season? What would change if you gave yourself permission to prioritize one thing that brings you peace?

And if you’re exploring mortgage options and want guidance from someone who understands real life—I’m always here to help.
